Privacy Policy
Last updated: 07/18/2026
Afarean is a private space to practice interviews with Faria, an AI mentor. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: we use your information to personalize your practice and generate your review — nothing more. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to train third-party AI models. Afarean is a practice and coaching tool. It never screens, ranks, or reports you to employers, and it does not read emotions. If we ever add ways to connect you with employers, it will always be opt-in and on your terms. See our Trust & Safety page for the full commitment.
Information we collect
- Account details. Your email address, which you use to sign in with a one-time magic link (no password). If you choose to continue with LinkedIn, we receive your verified email from LinkedIn to create or match your account.
- Your profile. The “about you” information you enter — your background, target role and level, and similar text — so Faria can tailor the practice to you.
- Résumé and job-description text. If you upload a résumé or a LinkedIn data export, or paste a job description, we parse it into text and store that text as part of your profile. You choose whether to provide any of this.
- Interview transcripts. During a practice interview your microphone (and, only if you turn it on, your camera) is recorded so your answers can be transcribed. The recording is transcribed and then discarded — we keep the transcript, not the audio or video. See Recording and transcription below.
- Delivery metrics. If you opt in to delivery analysis, we compute mechanical facts from your transcript — speaking pace, filler-word rate, and pauses. These are counts and timings only, never a judgment of your mood.
- Review results. The AI-generated review of your answers and delivery, which is saved so you can revisit it.
- Basic session data. A session cookie to keep you signed in, and routine technical logs needed to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
We use the information above for two purposes only:
- To personalize your practice— so Faria's questions and follow-ups fit your background, target role, and the job you're aiming at.
- To generate your review — an honest, quote-grounded critique of your answers and a mechanical report on your delivery.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content to train third-party AI models. We do not use your information for advertising.
Recording and transcription
When you sit a practice interview, your recorded answer (audio, plus video only if you explicitly enable it) is sent to our own self-hosted transcription service — it runs on our infrastructure, not an outside transcription vendor. The service turns your speech into text and computes the mechanical delivery metrics described above. Once transcription is complete, the audio and video recording is discarded. We do not keep it. What remains stored is the transcript and the mechanical metrics.
On-device facial metrics
Facial analysis is off by default and opt-in. If you turn it on, it runs entirely in your browser, on your own device, using an on-device model (MediaPipe). It produces only descriptive, mechanical metrics — for example, roughly how centered your gaze stays (an eye-contact percentage) and how steady your head is.
Nothing from your camera during facial analysis is uploaded, recorded, or stored by us — not the video, not the images, not the metrics. It never leaves your device. And to be clear: it does not infer emotion, mood, or confidence. Afarean does not read emotions.
Consent
Before any recording begins, you pass a consent screen with separate, unbundled opt-in choices — audio, video, delivery analysis, and facial analysis are each their own toggle, nothing is pre-checked, and there is no “agree to all”. You grant exactly the scopes you want, and recording cannot start without your consent to the minimum needed to run the interview (audio).
Service providers and third parties
We share the minimum needed with a small set of providers so the service can function:
- Resend — sends your sign-in magic-link and account emails (receives your email address).
- ElevenLabs— generates Faria's spoken voice from the interview text (receives the question text to speak, not your account details).
- Self-hosted transcription — runs on our own infrastructure to transcribe your answers; your recordings are not sent to an outside transcription vendor.
- A private, subscription-based AI model — used to generate your interview questions and your review. Your content is processed to produce output for you; we do not use it to train third-party models.
- LinkedIn — only if you choose to sign in with LinkedIn or import a LinkedIn data export.
- Stripe — a payment processor that is present in the code but currently turned off. It would only receive billing information if and when paid plans are enabled.
Cookies and session
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in after you use your magic link. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Data retention and deleting everything
Practice interviews and their transcripts, reviews, and consents are automatically purged after a retention window (by default, 30 days). Your profile and account stay until you delete them.
You can permanently delete your account and everything associated with it at any time. The account-delete action erases all of your data — interviews, transcripts, reviews, consents, your profile, sign-in tokens, and the account itself — and it is irreversible. If you can't find the option or want us to do it for you, email [email protected] and we will erase everything.
Your rights and choices
You can access the profile and reviews stored in your account, correct your profile at any time by editing it, and deleteyour account and all associated data as described above. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; email us and we'll help you exercise them.
Children
Afarean is a US-first service intended for users 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we design the product to hold the least data necessary — for example, by discarding recordings after transcription and keeping facial analysis on your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
